Given music’s antiquity and universality, researchers have always assumed that the human brain must be equipped with a "music room", a cortical architecture solely dedicated to deciphering the harmonic symbols of a song. Though challenging to envision, most of us harbor spatial metaphors with linguistic programming inside us. Overwhelming evidence already exists of psycho-spatial orientation and directions. (Stand on your rights; face the future, put the past behind you; center yourself; Look inside; hold in high esteem, an object of low regard; a higher power)

 

Creativity is the catalyst for purpose and harmony in an otherwise strange life. Art of any form, is a medium for discovery and communication. The time has come for the Art World to produce works that promote and provoke dialogue that helps us understand ourselves and discover all knowledge and mystery. It is then our task to select, telescope and transmit the realities of universal significance.

 

The musicians (and their progenitors) illuminated in "HEADROOM" are mere portals into humanity that examine self awareness, self-hatred, will-power, heritage, self-determination and life after death just to name a few. Stylistically, the paintings echo Robert Rauschenberg, Romare Bearden and Franz Kline, and each one speaks across generations, and musical genres to illustrate the human victories and subhuman scandals that form or deform our ambition for a more perfect human union.
